May 6, 2005 - Why did we decide to go with copper silver ionization and ProCare Water Treatment Inc. for Legionella control and prevention?

As Environmental Consultants in the New York City area, our organization was approached in September of 2004 by a client to find a Legionella control and prevention solution for their healthcare facility domestic hot water systems. We proceeded in the research of several types of technologies that included copper silver ionization. This type of technology was the most promising of all and we then proceeded to contact companies that are involved in providing industrial size copper silver ionization technology.

During this research, one company stood out for their responsive and professional behavior. That company was ProCare Water Treatment Inc. located in New Brunswick, Canada. Given the circumstances, the president and chief microbiologist for the corporation, Mr. Chris Gauthier, was in New York City within 48 hours of our inquiry. He continuously made himself accessible to the staff, including the infection control team, and provided the answers needed to understand the technology. He was available to discuss implementation and the follow up protocols that are important to the long term use of these types of systems. He also helped to resolve the problem quickly and efficiently. Other companies we contacted were very unresponsive.

In light of the circumstances, time was of the essence and the ProCare people were able to provide the answers that were needed to deliver a solution and avert a crisis at the hospital. Our first and second rounds of tests came back negative for any Legionella species. This explains why we chose ProCare over other vendors of this technology and still consult with them when required.
